What is a .weather domain?

.WEATHER is a new generic Top-Level Domain  announced by ICANN, the Internet domain authority. The New gTLD Program`s goal is to enhance competition, innovation, and consumer choice. 

Many people rely on The Weather Channel for information about weather in their area, and now those same people—and more—can rely on .WEATHER for The Weather Channel’s trusted, up-to-the-minute, round-the-clock weather information. Like all branded extensions, .WEATHER creates a namespace consumers can rely on. And although The Weather Channel has proposed considering making some .WEATHER domains available for hyper-local content, it’s most likely that only The Weather Channel will be able to use .WEATHER.
